Some of you all know I hurt my shoulder at work a few weeks ago. The xrays didn't show nothing so bright and early I went into the hospital for an MRI.
The results are not good I have torn tendons in my shoulder and the bicep muscle is torn away from the shoulder also. No wonder it hurts to throw and lift things. My dr has recommended that I go see an orthopedic dr and have surgery on my shoulder then physical therapy. That's if we get workman's comp permission There goes the garden season to he!! in a handbasket My restrictions are no driving truck, so that means I can't participate in the truck driving rodeo Saturday Basically the dr wants me doing nothing as she is afraid my shoulder might come out of it's socket Work thinks I'm gonna come in and do light duty. My right arm is useless and I'm right handed man is this gonna suck. I called my dr and explained the situation and she is gonna have a talk with my job. All I know is my shoulder aches a lot and I'm very tired. It will be up to the orthopedic dr to decide if my driving career is over with. __________________

That is aweful news Sunshine.
Don't go with the first opinion though, Doctors can be like truckers and rarely agree on anything. Research your surgeon, there is a huge difference in their ability, and how they follow-up with after-care. Some doctors rush a patient back before thorough healing has taken place and YOU don't want that.
Ask questions: How long will this take to heal, What types of exercises should I be doing and when? Doing the procedure once is enough, you don't want to have to do it again. Tendons heal very slowly, very very slowly. Get good meds! Get them before you need them.

Sorry Sunshine, I know how much you look forward to your flowers and garden. Can you treat yourself to a pedicure? I just had one last Sat. Awesome, relaxing and now I can have my feet out in public, with pretty sparkly flowers on them.

It is my right shoulder and I am right handed Most of the time my shoulder feels pretty normal but if I forget and do something I aint suppose to do it reminds me that it's injured. Sorry, never got any good drugs Ibuprofen or aleve has taken care of the problem nicely. Will go to the orthopedic dr on the 26th. Workman's comp is being a PITA. We've been having a little discussion about light duty work. Right now I don't have transportation and its almost 100 miles round trip to Bangor from mom's. I'm tired of explaining that I have things that have got to be done around the house before I have surgery. Also have all my stuff out of the truck that I need to sort and segregate. Comp doesn't give a scheis. All they care about is saving my company a few dollars I have also needed some time at home as I've been feeling really burned out and tired. Am finally starting to feel rested and joining the human race. It has felt really good to get a decent meal made with real food ;D a shower in my own shower and sleep in a real bed. No listening to reefers and APU's ;D

No listening to reefers and APU's ;D This former lady trucker I am in school with, she was on workmans comp. I didn't pry so I don't know the specifics but they are the ones paying for her to go back to school. Is that a possible option? Or will they wait to see after the surgery if the doctor will even clear you for that type of work again? Don't forget to demand a second opinion. Workmans comp or not you have a right to a second opinion before you commit to a surgeon check them out online. There are websites they list pending litigation and suspension of priviledges from payers that are red flags to consider. Sorry no good drugs, I was more or less referring to after the procedure. ;D I like the ones that will knock me out for the first 3 days, till I am over the worst of it.

Went to the orthopedic dr. yesterday. I have a rotator cuff tear and will be going for surgery on June 2nd I will be going in for the pre-op and on the 8th will have surgery. Doc told me I could have stayed on my regular job and not have to put with this light duty bullshit Also told me there's a lot of guys out there driving truck with rotator cuff tears But b/c of my age 52 they have to do the surgery. I've missed out on a good part of my garden season. Too late now to dig up and divide some plants. Had an area around the house out by my oil tank that I wanted to clean up. That didn't get done b/c of my lifting restrictions. I hate dealing with workman's comp. Cheap basturds. I did make photo copies of April and May's calendars and have documented everything starting with the day I got my injury, started light duty etc.

Everyones situation is going to be different. I can tell you how mine went, and how I can empathize with what you are going through.
I was driving a Pete 387 in the North during a winter ice storm. I pulled into a TS and parked, and as I started to get out, I slipped on the icy first step and fell to the asphalt. I came down on my right side and used my outstretched arm to break my fall. That's how the injury happened.
I worked the next couple years with this injury. When I drove, it got to where I had trouble reaching above my shoulder level...and my shoulder was always painful. I could still lift okay, with my arm straight, but that was it.
I had a General Family Doc, who told me I had arthritus, after he gave me a "range of motion" test. I kept complaining as the pain got worse. He sent me to a Physical Therapist who like a trained monkey said almost the same words..."good news is you don't have a torn rotator cuff." After awhile longer, I pinned my regular Doc up against the wall and told him I want to see a Specialist...you know...a real Doc. I also dumped this jerk and began seeing an Internist for my primary care.
Anyway, the Orthopedist did x-rays and "range of motion" and also said "good news is you don't have a torn rotator cuff." I told him in broken french canadian %$#~(*% (&%_$#@@!~ +:^%@! !!!!!! So he ordered an MRI...and it came back I had a severely torn rotator cuff injury, with one of my bicep tenons torn off the bone.
After the MRI...I got an operation to repair the torn rotator cuff, and they had to remove the torn bicep tenon. I got morphine for pain as I demanded to stay in the hospital for 2 days after the operation. (they were going to send me home after recovery) (fok that!) After recovery, the pain blocker they give you for the operation wears off quickly. I came home with oxycodone pain pills. (low dose) I had to demand a higher dose, and let them know...I can still gut fish with my other arm.
I no longer have the daily pain, but I have lost a little range of motion. It took a 8 months to fully recover, and over a year to completely forget stuff. It's been 15 months since I had this done.

Thanks Roadhog That's where my problem has been is lifting my arm over my head. Basically throwing and heavy lifting. I want this done so I can have a "normal" life and get on with living. I went thru all that range of motion bs with the dr. at Healthworks and she even put my arm in a sling Let's just say the sling didn't last very long When the orthopedic dr told me I still could have driven truck was I ever pissed off . When I told work I still could have have been driving they were just as pissed off as I was.

Get a second opinion and really research the doctor not just any old doctor. Most of them are lazy and will review what the previous doc said, not wanting to contradict will just repeat them. I am 100% serious when I say get another docotor please, check out his patients especially if you know someone how has had them before.
Like Roadhog said, not only can they be dead wrong, they often need help from us to figure things out.

I will be going in for surgery Tuesday the 8th at 6:30 am. The reason so early is where I'm a diabetic, Can't have anything to eat or drink after midnight and can't take my morning meds. Which means I can't have my morn'n coffee Will check in with ya'll later after I come down off the meds they give me ;D ;D

May God be with you, and I hope things go very well! Yer not gonna wanna talk to us for awhile. Sounds like they are sending you home after recovery... plus a few hours. (same day) That pain blocker they give you before surgery will wear off later that day or night. Take whatever pain pills they give you...before that blocker wears off. The first few days are going to be rough. They wanted to send me home like that too, and I refused, and stayed there two more days...and got the good stuff... morphine. As well as room service. (of course I live alone at home)

BTW...I'm right handed too, and mine also was the right. It's been over a year...and I'm still doing some things left handed ;D I only have two brain cells to retrain...so... I don't get it.

So true about the nerve block, it works so well you actually think that you're fine. Then like a light switch I hot poker starts stabbing you.
I went home ASAP just cause I hate hospital beds, never a good nights sleep even with a pain pump. Learning do to things with your left takes some finesse and effort but eventually you get used to it. Thinking about you Sunshine, take care of yourself, especially since you are diabetic it will mean you heal a lot slower.
